Hours
How should I track my hours?
Please track your hours using the "NHS SERVICE HOUR TRACKING SHEET" .
How many hours do I need?
2022-2023 Update: As a member of NHS, you must complete 20 hours of service per semester.
If I earn more than 20 hours in the first semester, can I transfer them to second semester?
No. Hours are not transferable over semesters.
Is there a limit to the number of hours I can log from one activity?
No. However, you must obtain hours from at least two different organizations per semester.
What about hours obtained in the summer?
You may log up to 5 hours obtained in the summer in your Semester 1 log.
Can I use hours from a appointed board position at Skyline (eg. ASB, Class Council, Link Crew)?
Yes, you may log up to 5 hours from a board appointed position, but these hours can only be used for ONE semester of your choosing.
Volunteer Opportunities
Where can I find volunteer opportunities?
Check out this list, which we regularly update, for volunteer opportunities. Also, feel free to notify us of any opportunities you find so that we can share them with the group!
Meeting Procedures
How many meetings can I miss?
You are allowed three absences per year. If you miss more than this, you will most likely be removed from NHS unless there are extenuating circumstances. If you cannot be present during an NHS meeting, please contact the executive board ahead of time.
Hour Equivalencies
Do I get to count my club positions for both semesters?
No, you can only list positions for hours one semester. For example, you can log that you're a club officer during the first semester, but you cannot use that during second semester (or vice versa). If you have enough hours for first semester, you might want to skip writing down your positions and hold them in reserve for second semester.
Do ASB hours count as NHS hours?
Only if they're completely voluntary. If you're a part of an ASB class, then a lot of the ASB work you do counts for a grade or is mandatory in some way. Those hours don't count, since, by definition, they aren't "voluntary". This includes passion projects. Those are very much mandatory, and so do not count towards service hours, even if they are service-based.
Since this policy can sometimes be a cause of confusion, check with the NHS executive board to confirm that your ASB hours will count for NHS hours. If you don't have any ASB hours that can count towards NHS, you can still log 4 hours for being a member of either ASB or Class Council as an hour equivalency, but only for 1 of the two semesters.
